La señora Susan Katz Richman, Presidenta de Nassau County Bar Association me ha enviado un correo electrónico en el cual me dice que nuestro paisano Héctor Hugo Herrera Villatoro, ha sido condecorado en Nueva Cork como un Héroe Desconocido por sus grandes dotes como intelectual en el campo de la oratoria, entre otras disciplinas.
También afirma la señora Katz que Héctor Hugo, aquí en Huehuetenango, fue nuestro alumno, información que nos conmueve y nos honra.

Hector Herrera of East Rockaway, who for more than 20 years has served as Building Superintendent, Webmaster and Photographer for the Nassau County Bar Association (NCBA) in Mineola, has been named one of the “Unsung Heroes” of the Long Island’s legal community.
The honor was recently announced by NCBA President Susan Katz Richman. Herrera is being recognized by Long Island Business News on Nov. 14 for his "dedication, hard work, a multitude of skills and abundant compassion." The Unsung Heroes award honors the exemplary performance of support staff behind the scenes of law-related entities.
“In many ways, Hector Herrera is the Nassau County Bar Association,” Richman said in a press release. “Hector is the go-to person for the staff and Bar Association members alike. Whenever something is needed and you have no idea what to do, where to go, or how to begin, the first call is always to Hector.”
The Nassau County Bar Association’s headquarters in Mineola, known as “Domus,” was built in 1931 and is modeled after the Middle Temple in London. Herrera ensures that the 80-year-old building is always in tip-top shape to welcome the thousands of people – from the legal community as well as the public -- who come to Domus each year. Not only does he oversee major building maintenance, such as re-pointing bricks, the installation of an HVAC system, and reconfiguring and repaving the parking lot, but he also takes pride in actually doing some of the maintenance himself, such as sanding and waxing the beautiful inlaid hardwood floors.
Herrera also oversees the smooth operation of the Bar Association’s complex computer operations and www.nassaubar.org, the Bar Association’s official website, and serves as the Bar’s official photographer at dozens of legal, social and public education events held by NCBA throughout the year.
Originally from Guatemala, Hector frequently serves as translator for people coming to the Association seeking assistance, for whom Spanish is the primary language.
“While Hector wears the hats of Superintendent of Building and Grounds, House Photographer and Webmaster, his real claim to fame is the person who he is!” Richman said. “He is a loyal, dedicated, competent professional, and so much more. All of his behind-the-scenes attention to detail enables the Bar Association staff, members and leadership to fulfill the mission of the Association, to serve the legal profession and the public.”
